Originally by: Regalis Everyone is overlooking the obvious. Insta's are NOT a guaruntee to get through a gate camp. Especially if you are using and INdy. It gives you a CHANCE only. Lets see...my Iteron V with 5 24% cargo expanders (worth 50mil+), do I try to risk running a blockade with even a good insta? NOT! Lets see...some folks here say, well you should gear your ship for speed....and haul what? Round trip was 30 jumps...and you want me to make that trip HOW MANY TIMES? With NO instas? Why not just give everyone a choice of what Region they want to spend their EVE lifetime in and leave it at that? Not everyone has a large corp...not everyone has a lot of cash to spend on escorts. There is cost vs reward now....everyone has a CHANCE to get through a gate camp (and not a real good one), remove instas and you leave us with cost and NO reward.
In a sense you have it right, but then again you were probably being sarcastic about it.
People arent supposed to be able to be anywhere and everywhere in less than an hour. Travel time is DESIGNED to be long. It's supposed to create regional diversity and semi-seclusion between empires and regions. It was much better before the highway and will return once the highways are removed.
And people need to stop whining about travelling 15km to a gate. Good grief, those who have been here a long time remember the 60km trek from warp in to dock at some minmatar stations back in the day.
Personally I hate it everytime I try to engage pirates with a fleet and they warp away and there is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE TO CATCH THEM. If you have a fleet coming in to match them, they can run and you're not going to catch them because of instas. You can't wait on the other side of the gate if they're ahead of you already. You can't catch up with interceptors or frigs because they'll send an FOF cruises at you the moment you lock them and you'll be dead before the fleet can get to you to save you. Sure you can probably come up with some ridiculously difficult way to catch them but even those don't work all the time.
If anything, removing instas would force pirates to fit out for a fight rather than a gank because there would be a reasonable chance of being caught. As it is, Digi is right, all offense and ignore defence wins every time. Why worry about defense if you can run after you gank someone.
It's the reason many fleets don't bother engaging pirate camps, since they'll run away or jump into empire. The good guys dont want to waste their time either. They want results and the only way right now is catching people off guard to gank them. You can only do that with 2 or 3:1 odds. Then people whine about you blobbing them. Make people prepare for fights if they're looking for kills.
I'll end with this, if you have trouble finding another person in a 100 person corp to help you, find a new corp. Even so, you can make friends in the area if you stay there long enough and get info from them on the route you're taking. Even talking to people in local can help you out. Keep an eye on the ships killed stats on the map and you'll know if combat is going down in the area. Flying in 0.0 is risky, it shouldnt be done effectively solo, end of story. It should be possible to some extent, but not effective.
Reminder, 0.0 is not given right that you have by playing the game. If you want it you can take it but it won't (and should NEVER) be given to everyone who merely wants it. It will take you working for it, either by making friends or being extremely creative. Find a way to make it work, but dont expect it to be easy.
